A Christian's Response to Israel Vs Hamas

Pastor Kasey has written a heartfelt expression of his perspective on the conflicts in the Middle East, centered around our Christian faith and the teachings of Jesus. This is a preview of what may be published in the Leavenworth Times on October 21, 2023.

By Kasey Robinson (Lead Pastor at Westside Family Church in Leavenworth, KS, westsideleavenworth.com). Exclusively for The Leavenworth Times (October 21, 2023 Pastor’s Corner)

A Christian’s Response to Israel and Hamas

There are various opinions regarding the heartbreaking pictures and stories emerging from the Middle East. As Christians, it is essential to maintain a biblical worldview that guides our prayers and provides hope amid these tragic events. I write this not as a theological discourse but as a guide for those Christians who are unsure about how to respond and pray.

The only true answer to these conflicts that will lead to lasting peace is not found in war or policy. Instead, it lies within the Kingdom of God that Jesus established through His life, suffering, death, and resurrection.

The world is in need of a new humanity that possesses a renewed way of thinking and living, firmly rooted in the truth of Jesus Christ. The Kingdom of God represents this new humanity, which submits to Jesus as the one True King and has accepted Him as their Savior. This is how God's Kingdom is established in our world – by transforming people's thought processes through His truth and changing the way they perceive and treat one another. As Christians follow the way of life demonstrated by Jesus Christ, they love each other and all others— even their enemies, just as Christ has loved them. This is the only answer that can restore peace in our world.

The way Jesus teaches us to pray is precisely what our world needs to undergo transformation, and it is the way Christians ought to live.

"This, then, is how you should pray: 'Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,  your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread.  And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.  And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.’" (Matthew 6:9-13, NIV)

I invite Christians to pray in this manner and to live out their faith in this way:

"God our Father, we declare Jesus is Lord over all things. Let your kingdom come within us and through us. Make us more like Jesus Christ. May we stand in Christ's righteousness. May that give us the power and boldness to live rightly and to do what is just. May we have a peace that comes from knowing that your Spirit is with us no matter what we face, and may we be peacemakers. May we have a joy that comes from knowing that our identity is Christ and make our joy complete as we honor you in everything we think, say, and do. We want your will more than we want our way. Show us your will for today. We depend upon your provision. Help us be content with all that you've given us and with our extra may we be generous to those in need. We depend upon your forgiveness. We trust in your measure of justice on all sin—including the sins against us—so give us the strength and grace to forgive all others. We depend upon your protection. Lead us to do the loving thing, which is the selfless thing that protects us from doing the evil thing. In Jesus' name, amen.

Get Ready for the 2nd Half of Unshakeable!

We are about to launch into the second half of our Unshakeable Generosity Initiative. Don’t miss this Sunday as we celebrate what God has done through our faithful giving and what we have yet to do.

Also, we have two requests of you:

  1. Wear your Unshakeable shirt on October 22, 2023.

  2. Share your Unshakeable Story with us.

We would like to hear how God has been growing you in your faith through your commitment to be Unshakeable. How is Unshakeable challenging you or encouraging you? How has God revealed Himself to you? What would you say to encourage someone else?

Our Journey to now

Our journey to build an Unshakeable Faith and Release Gods Unshakeable Love has taught us this:

Spiritual maturity is having a healthy relationship with God, myself, and others.
(Becoming Emotionally Healthy)

Jesus told stories that are keys to the kingdom of God.
(The Storyteller: Gospel of Luke)

Waste the haste: learn Jesus' unforced rhythms of life.
(Waste the Haste)

We receive and we advance the Unshakeable Kingdom of God’s righteousness, peace, and joy.
(Unshakeable Kingdom)

 Unshakeable Prayer:

Father, may I stand in Christ’s righteousness. May that give me the strength and courage to live rightly and do what is just. Give me a peace because I trust that You are always with me no matter what I face and may I be a peacemaker. Give me a joy that comes from knowing that my identity is in Jesus and make my joy complete as I honor You in everything I think, say, and do

Driveway Movie Night + BLESS

We are on mission together loving Jesus, becoming like Jesus, and sharing Jesus in our neighborhoods. We want to empower you to be on this mission to B.L.E.S.S. your neighbors by throwing a Driveway Movie Night.

Why host a Driveway Movie Night? One reason, to build relationships with your neighbors and create the opportunity to eat together and get to know one another’s story. This is also a great way to listen to their story and learn how you can pray for them. You may even have the chance to share Jesus by praying with a neighbor during your Driveway Movie Night!

We have created a few Driveway Movie Night Kits to help you pull this off. Or you can use your own tv or projector to throw your own Driveway Movie Night. If you would like to learn more or if you’d like to reserve a Driveway Movie Night Kit, click the link below.

Let’s be on mission together this summer loving Jesus, becoming like Jesus, and sharing Jesus where we live!

What to do in solitude: (From the teaching)

  • Identify a time and place to be alone with God.

  • Listen to God through scripture and listen for His whisper in

    silence.

  • Pray scripture to pray for God’s will.

  • Pray the way Jesus teaches in Matthew 6:9-13.

28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

Matthew 11:28–30 (NIV)

Example Prayer: Father, I need the courage to choose to come to You to find rest. May I give up my way of life and embrace Jesus' way of life so I can learn from Him. Thank you for being gentle and humble. I trust that you will give me rest for my soul. I trust that your way of life is truly easy and that following you is not a burden.

Active Duty? Don't Miss Sending Sunday

We want to thank all of our Military Families for making Westside Family Church their home church while they are stationed at Fort Leavenworth. We know that many of our military families are moving soon and we want to come alongside you to support you, if you are moving.

We also want to invite you to join us for Sending Sunday and I want to invite you into being one of our "Military on Mission."

Sending Sunday on May 22

We want to invite you to attend our Sending Sunday. During each of our three services on May 22, we will be honoring all of our military families who will be moving. Please let us know if you will be moving and if you can or cannot attend our Sending Sunday using the form below. We will take 7 minutes in the service to acknowledge you, pray for you, and send you off with a small token as a gift.

Military on Mission

I want to invite you to become one of our Military on Mission. We have dozens of Military on Mission families around the world right now and we'd love to include you in this group of people on mission with us. A Military on Mission is someone who will commit to these three things:

  1. Live out this mission of loving Jesus, becoming like Jesus, and sharing Jesus wherever you go to BLESS others.

  2. Be a point of contact wherever you are stationed.

  3. Allow us to support you however we can for as long as you allow.

You can read more about our Military on Mission here.

Thank you for being on mission together with us.

We are grateful for you and the time we get to share with you!
