Building Re-Opening Update: 2020-07-08

We are looking forward to seeing those who are ready to return to our public gatherings as we re-open our building this week. We have some information in the video above that is important to make this safe for all and to help us ensure that we can continue to publicly gather.

Building Re-Opening | Limited Services

8:15am Service: Best for those who are higher risk
9:30am & 11:00am: We ask that families with kids coming attend only these services.

Our seating will help you maintain a safe social distance while we worship together.

Masks

We encourage everyone, 6 years and older, to wear a mask to the 9:30 or 11:00am services and keep them on until you are seated.

To keep our 8:15am service safe for those who are at higher risk, we are requiring masks to be worn until you are seated. For those who have medical conditions that restrict you from wearing a mask, please follow your directives and please come to our 8:15am service.

I encourage you to adopt an attitude I am having:
"Wearing a mask is not about your view,
it's about who is next to you."

These efforts will help us gather safely and help us ensure that we will be able to continue to attend together.

Staying Home?

Please let us know if you will be staying home while we re-open our building. This will help us know how we can best stay connected with you and help you be cared for in this season.

Our bulletin is now fully digital. Make sure you are subscribed by filling out this form. This will keep you informed as we re-open our different ministries and it will give you the link to our teaching notes for Sunday.

Our Plan to Return to Large Gatherings

Our leadership team continues to meet regularly to prepare our facility and procedures so we can safely regather when it is wise. As of now, our leadership has prayerfully decided to resume large Sunday gathers when we enter Kansas' Phase Out stage, which now is no earlier than June 29. We will continue to update you, as this plan is fluid.

First Responders Zoom Call with Counselor Dr. Mike Grubbs

Are you a first responder or do you work in a correctional facility? We have created an opportunity for you to join others in an exclusive zoom call with Dr. Michael Grubb. Dr. Grubbs is Christian counselor. This group call will be free of charge for you and is open to any of your co-workers.

Reopening Plan | Faith + Responsibility

We know this has been a difficult and hard season for many people. As we continue to navigate this season, we are walking by faith and leading responsibly. 

Part of our responsibility is to listen to you and care for you. Please take this week’s updated check-in survey. 

Better Together on Mission

Even though our world has changed, our mission remains the same. We believe that we will be better together as we continue loving Jesus, becoming like Jesus, and sharing Jesus with those whom we live, work, and play.

We believe that God wants to turn your home into His hub for His mission.

Westside Leavenworth’s Reopening Plan

As our community reopens, we want to share our reopening plan with you. Please know that our leadership team has prayerfully and carefully deliberated over this plan in faith that God wants to work in and through us and with a sense of responsibility to our church family’s safety. 

This is a pliable plan and could change as circumstances change. At this time, we will continue to be the church @home. We plan to reopen our Sunday gatherings with the whole Westside Family on June 21. At that time we will be able to have all KiDS programming and our Westside Student Ministries will be able to meet weekly.

Church @home + Talk-It-Over

We will continue to be the church @home during Phase One. You may invite others to your home as long as you stay under 10 people.  This is your opportunity to step out in faith and join Jesus on His mission. Invite a neighborhood family, friends, or a life group family to join you for church @home.

We will continue to post a Talk-It-Over discussion guide for each Sunday teaching so you can talk it over with those you invite into your home.

Groups

We encourage groups who are comfortable to begin meeting in person during Phase Two of the reopening plan.

Westside Student Ministries

Our teenagers, whose parents are comfortable with gatherings under 30 people, will begin to meet in small groups during Phase Two. WSM weekly services will reopen during Phase Out.

Courage to Step Out in Faith

We believe God will use you in greater ways by being the church @home than

by us gathering as a large church family during this season. We pray you have the courage to step out in faith and be on mission with us and be the church @home.

Easter Together With You

I love Easter. I love Easter even though this will be the first Easter that I have not been in a church service. But that will not stop us from being the Church.

This weekend, we are joining arms with Wallula Christian Church to provide an online experience that will lead us in celebrating and reflecting on the resurrection of Jesus.

Here are some ways you can make this Easter meaningful for you and someone else.

Prepare for Communion with Us

Toward the end of our Easter service, we will take communion together. We encourage you to do this with your family. Get creative and grab whatever elements you can to remember Jesus' body that was broken (cracker, etc) and His blood that was shed (grape juice, cool aid, etc). The elements are not sacred, remembering Jesus is.

Here's a fun note, Cassie and I had communion with our church in South Africa one year with something called "Hot Cross Buns" and Kool-aid.

Join an Online Group

We were made for community even when we are staying at home. If you are not a part of a group, we have several Online Groups  where you can be in community together.

COVID-19 Update (2020-03-13) | Online Only Services this Week

Church Family, 

In light of your best interest and the interest of others, we are adapting to what is needed to help protect our community.

  • We will not host services at our church building this Sunday. 

  • We will have services online this Sunday at 9:30am & 11:00am.

While we won't gather in person, technology allows us to connect in other ways. We encourage you to worship together with your friends, neighbors, and family in your homes on Sunday. This is a great opportunity to invite someone over to your home.

Two ways we can worship together and make a difference with this opportunity:

PARENTS + KiDS

Those of you with KiDS, our KiDS Director is gathering resources to email parents so you can lead your child this Sunday.

STUDENT MINISTRY

WSM will not meet on Wed, March 18. Our Student Ministry team will be in communication with teens throughout the week.

OPPORTUNITY TO BLESS AND GIVE

Use this opportunity to BLESS someone. Be in prayer for those around you. Listen to them. Engage/Eat with them. Serve them. Let the Story of Jesus be shared in your love.

You are positioned to love those with whom you live, work, study, or play. I encourage you to check on those close to you. Call and text other Westsiders to check in on one another.  Continue to pray together and for one another.

We still have the opportunity to give and support Jesus' kingdom work through our local church. We thank you for continuing to give securely online. It is fast to set up and you can even schedule a regular gift.

LIFEGROUPS AND SMALL GATHERINGS

We encourage LifeGroups to continue to gather as you are feeling well. Use wisdom when deciding. We also will continue to host groups at our church building. Please contact us with any questions.

MY PERSONAL ENCOURAGEMENT

This is not a time for the Church of Jesus to operate in fear. The Apostle Paul encouraged Timothy with words that we need to embrace "for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control" (2 Timothy 1:7).

We have the Holy Spirit alive in us. The same Spirit that has power over death. We don't have to fear. We have God's resurrection power and that enables us to love in this time. We also have self-control. Another translation says "sound mind." I pray for you to operate in this Holy Spirit operating system with a power to love and of a sound mind.

RESPONDING TO PEOPLE WHO ASK "WHY CANCEL?"

If someone is concerned that we are canceling, here are some talking points for you:

  • We are putting the interest of others ahead of our own and loving one another by protecting one another.

  • We are not operating in fear. We are being responsible. (2 Timothy 1:7)

  • We are doing what love requires right now.
