Worry Worksheet (Lie vs Truth) + Teaching from the Vault
On Sunday, April 7, we asked our church family to give God what has you “tied up in knots.” We want to give you a resource to help you replace your worry, anxious thoughts, and fears with the truth of God’s word.
We encourage you to memorize these passages of scripture. Memorizing scripture and meditating on it is the best way to trust God, His truth, and be transformed from the worry, anxious thoughts, and fear that can cripple you.
Flip It
The worries that occupy our mind are a make-believe land of “what if.” It’s a land of lies. You don’t just stop worrying or stop anxious thoughts, you replace them. We must replace our worried, anxious thoughts, with truth. The Apostle Paul writes this in Philippians 4:6-9,
6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
8 Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. 9 Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.

I have a specific way of practicing this passage. It’s cheesy but it has helped me in many situations. Here it is:
Flip your worry into worship
Flip “What If” into “What is.”
Instead of being anxious, actively worrying, flip that into worship (v6-7). Replace your worried thoughts with thanksgiving. First, tell God two or three things your are thankful for instead of going into the make-believe world of “what if.” Now you are positioned to ask God for what you need right now, trustting that He is with you. Flipping your worry into worship and presenting to God what you need is how God’s peace guards our anxious hearts and minds.
Second, change your “what if” statements into “what is” statements. Not “what if” this happens or “what if” that happens, but say “what is” true, “what is” noble, “what is” right, “what is” pure, “what is” lovely, “what is admirable, excellent, or praiseworthy.
Jesus reveals God to us. When we see God through Christ it helps us understand who we are in Christ. In Christ, we have the peace of God that can transcend anything we understand. We also have God’s Spirit alive inside us—the God of Peace is always with us—that’s always true for me and for you. You have the Holy Spirit who can empower you to replace your anxious thoughts and flip your worries into worship, and flip “what if’s” into “what is.”
May God’s Spirit transform you by His Word.
