SERIES BIG IDEA:
Influence occurs when we accept, challenge, and encourage others.
TEACHING BIG IDEA:
I influence by inspiring courage in others.
This week we look to see how encouraging each builds us to take our next step. Jesus sends people into our lives to encourage us to take our next step. In doing so, we encourage those around us to take their next step. 1 Thessalonians 4:18 says to build each other up using scripture and our words. We encourage each other by being present in their lives, talking with them, helping them with everyday living, listening to them when they have lost hope. We inspire them with the hope from our stories. Our stories show the trust we place in Jesus and the hope he gives us for a better time to come.
TALK IT OVER (Discuss One or More):
What does the word Encourage mean to you? Think of the last time someone encouraged you to do something, did it help or hinder? Why?
1 Thessalonians 4:18 says to use scripture to encourage each other. What is your favorite encouraging scripture?
1Thessalonians 5:8-11 talks about putting on faith and love as a breastplate and hope of salvation as a helmet. With faith, love and hope, how do we encourage and build each other up?
When was the last time you shared your story with someone? How did you feel? Will you share your story again? If not, why not? What would the next step be to resolve the issue?
What is your next step to encourage others to trust in Jesus as you have?
