Begin this session in prayer. Consider asking for humility in the face of God’s teachings. Pray for wisdom.


Ice Breaker

How could looking at your bank statement and your calendar help you understand your priorities?

Can you name some priorities that are fixed and some that are flexible?



A person’s days are determined; you have decreed the number of his months and have set limits he cannot exceed.  Job 14:5 (NIV)

“Determined” used in this passage means ‘set’ or ‘fixed’, something which God has put in place ahead of time and which we cannot alter.

Observation & Interpretation

Read and discuss:

1. How does culture influence people to ‘control’ the number of their days?

2. As a group, can you create a statement that summarizes what you have just discussed?


Show me, Lord, my life’s end and the number of my days; let me know how fleeting my life is.
